Owner Surrender Requests
Surrendering a pet is heartbreaking for everyone involved, so we prefer for dogs to stay with their existing families. But we know that is not always possible. If you are unable to keep your dog in those circumstances and are looking to rehome him/her, you can submit a request below.
Unfortunately, due to space and resource constraints, we can only take on a limited number, so inquiries are not guaranteed placement.
To be considered, you MUST:
1. Fill out a Surrender Request Form (below)
2. Email photos AND current vet records to [email protected]
**Please note that due to limited resources, we are unable to take dogs with bite histories**

PROCESS & PROCEDURES
** While the procedures below may sound very cut and dry, we try to always approach owner surrenders with as much compassion and understanding as possible. **
Step One: If you are looking to surrender your dog, please fill out the SURRENDER REQUEST FORM above and email photos to [email protected].
Step Two: If your dog is eligible for our surrender program, someone from Lucky Dog Refuge will contact you.
Step Three: The dog must be evaluated in person at Lucky Dog Refuge.
Step Four: If Lucky Dog Refuge is able to commit to rehoming your dog, a Surrender Pre-Agreement contract must be signed via Docusign, guaranteeing that the dog will be surrendered if and when an adopter is found; if you decide against surrendering your dog after that point, you must let us know immediately and prior to an adoption meet and greet being set up; you must also reimburse the Rescue for any charitable expenses spent on behalf of the Dog. An agreed upon deposit of the surrender fee must be paid at this time. (Surrender fees may vary depending on the circumstances.)
Step Five: All dogs must be fully up to date on vaccinations and neutered or spayed immediately.
Step Six: Lucky Dog Refuge will promote your dog as adoptable on Petfinder and set up meet and greets with potential adopters. (Current owners are not permitted to partake in those meet and greets to protect the privacy of the potential adopters.)
Step Seven: If the dog is adopted, a Final Surrender Agreement is signed via Docusign once the dog is in our custody. At that point, you have released all title and ownership claims to the Dog. (Unfortunately, we are unable to share the identity or contact information of the new adopters due to privacy regulations.) The remainder of the agreed upon surrender fee must be paid at this time.
Step Eight: The dog begins its new life in a happy, healthy, safe home.

Home-To-Home
Due to space limitations, our preferred method for owner surrender is a “Home-to-Home” adoption; this mean you essentially foster the dog in your home as we set up meet and greets for adoption. Only in exigent circumstances will we take the dog into the rescue during the adoption process.
